Know Christ - find hope & purpose

Jesus came that we may have life and have it abundantly.  We can know Christ in a personal relationship...not just know about Him in our heads.

God's Word is a love letter to each of us -

How to know Christ

God's Purpose: To Know Him

God loves you and wants you to experience peace and life, both abundant and eternal, through knowing Him.

The Bible says ...

"We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." --Romans 5:1 (NIV)

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." --John 3:16 (NIV)

"I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly." --John 10:10 (NIV)

Why don't most people have this peace and abundant life that God planned for us to have?

The Problem: Separation

God created us in His own image to have an abundant life. He did not make us as robots to automatically love and obey Him. God gave us a will and a freedom of choice.

We (mankind) chose to disobey God and go our own willful way.  Therefore sin entered the world and resulted in our separation from God.  We were not just born as sinners though, we each make that choice to rebel against His authority as we choose our way and what we think best and want rather than what God says.

The Bible says ...

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." --Romans 3:23 (NIV)

"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." --Romans 6:23 (NIV)

Our Attempts to Reach God

People have tried in many ways to bridge this gap between themselves and God ...

The Bible says ...

"There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death." --Proverbs 14:12 (NIV)

"But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear." --Isaiah 59:2 (NIV)

No bridge reaches God ... except one.

God's Bridge: The Cross

God loves us so much though that He made a way for us to come back to Him through His Son, Jesus Christ Who died on the Cross and rose from the grave! He paid the penalty for our sin and bridged the gap between God and people. Because of this, we can know Christ as our personal Savior & Lord.

The Bible says ...

"For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Jesus Christ." --1 Timothy 2:5 (NIV)

"For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God." --1 Peter 3:18 (NIV)

"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." --Romans 5:8 (NIV)

"Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." -- John 14:6

Our Response: Receive Christ

To know Christ we must trust Jesus as Lord and Savior and receive Him by personal invitation.  It's a decision, a choice...us saying "YES!" to His invitation.

The Bible says ...

"Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me." --Revelation 3:20 (NIV)

"Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God." --

John 1:12 (NIV)

"That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." --Romans 10:9 (NIV)

Where are you?

Will you receive Jesus Christ right now?

How to receive & know Christ

1. Admit your need (I am a sinner in need of forgiveness; I have disobeyed God).

2. Be willing to turn from your sins (Repent-turn around from going your own way (away from God), and turn back to Him).

3. Believe that Jesus Christ died for you on the Cross and rose from the grave. (Don't just believe it in your head, choose to believe & trust Him with your heart).

4. Through prayer, invite Jesus Christ to come in and control your life through the Holy Spirit. (Receive Him as Lord and Savior; put your belief into action - choose to trust Him with your life now and for eternity. It's called Faith. It's a decision.  It's a choice that will change you from the inside out and you'll never regret!)

Prayer

How to Pray: (It's not the words that matter, but the sincerity of your heart.)

Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I've messed up and gone my own way; I am a sinner in need of Your forgiveness. I believe that You died for my sins and then rose from the grave alive and You are able to save me. I want to turn from my sin of going away from you and run to you! I now invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as Lord and Savior.  Thank you! In Jesus' name. Amen.

God's Assurance: His Word

If you prayed this prayer,

The Bible says ...

"Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." --Romans 10:13 (NIV)

Did you sincerely ask Jesus Christ to come into your life? Where is He right now? What has He given you?

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith -- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God -- not by works, so that no one can boast." --Ephesians 2:8,9 (NIV)

Receiving Christ, we are born into God's family through the supernatural work of the Holy Spirit who indwells every believer. This is called regeneration, or the "new birth."

Now what?

If you have given your life to Christ, He wants you to grow in that relationship. Now you know Christ, but everyday is a chance to get to know Christ even better.

Here are some things that will help…

1. Obtain a Bible and read it every day.

2. Talk to God in prayer expressing your heart to Him.

3. Get involved in a church where you can learn more about the Bible and fellowship with other Christians.

4. Tell others about Christ and what He has done for you.

5. Obey God in what His Word says.

6. Trust Him with every detail of your life.

Note: I have had a few people contact me and ask "what about baptism?". We do believe baptism is important; it is an act of obedience as we follow Christ's example. It also is a public profession identifying us with Jesus' death, burial and resurrection. It paints a picture of the change that has taken place in our lives as we have died to sin and are now alive in Christ!

We would love for you to contact us about your decision to know Christ!

Special note: We do preview the websites to which we link, but are unable to peruse them completely. We try to check others' faith statements and make sure they do profess Jesus Christ as God's Son and salvation is found only in Him. It must, however, be your responsibility to personally dig into God's Word and allow the Holy Spirit to be your first and final teacher on all subjects.
