How often do you stop and think about that next breath of life you’re about to take? If you’re like me, not very often!
I
think breathing gives us a beautiful spiritual illustration of the
presence of God. As a believer, God's presence is always with us. We
don't have to "think about" His presence to make it so. Yet when we are
aware of it, we can take long, deep breaths of His presence that will
bring peace and calm into our lives that cleanse and refresh our bodies
and spirit!
I love that God gave us His personal name of "YHWH" -
translated to Yahweh, to Jehovah, to LORD. In it's original Hebrew,
the "H" is like an exhaling, an outward breath, the breath of His
presence in us...the breath of His life!
God "breathed life"
into man in the beginning (Gen. 2:7). God changed Abram's name to
Abraham...the change being "h" - the breath of life. This comes through
faith, faith in His Son, Jesus Christ.
"What does Scripture say? 'Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.'” Romans 4:3
"22This is why “it was credited to him as righteousness.” 23 The words “it was credited to him” were written not for him alone, 24 but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness—for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. 25 He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification."Romans 4:22-25
How often do you stop and think about that next breath you're about to take? If you're like me, not very often!
Most of us have heard John 3:16:
“For
God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that
whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life."
If
you read further though, you'll see that this "first breath" is not
automatic. There must come a point in our lives when by the conviction
of His Holy Spirit, we know God is calling. We have a choice to accept
His life or reject it. When we accept this gift of grace (Ephesians
2:8), His Holy Spirit comes in and abides with us. A change takes
place; an "h" is added; we are never the same!
"For God did
not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world
might be saved through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged; he who
does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed
in the name of the only begotten Son of God."
Today,
take time to be aware of your breathing. Let it remind you of God's
presence and breathe in deeply of His life, love, peace, mercy, grace,
joy, etc.! Then turn around and breathe His breath of life out to
someone else that He has placed in your path.
Physically, we
must continually inhale and exhale. Spiritually, we must do the same.
Without Jesus we can do nothing! Spend time in His presence breathing
in deeply, but also remember that even when we are not aware, He is
still with us.

We try to check others' faith statements and make sure they do profess Jesus Christ as God's Son and salvation is found only in Him. It must, however, be your responsibility to personally dig into God's Word and allow the Holy Spirit to be your first and final teacher on all subjects.
