Tacky the Penguin: a lesson on being different

Using children's books can help capture student's attention while also introducing the Bible lesson topic.

Summary: Tacky is an odd bird, but a good bird to have around. He steps to the beat of a different drummer from the other penguins. But in his own haphazard way, Tacky saves the other penquins by being unordinary.

Lesson: God has created each of us to be unique and special. We shouldn't look down on anyone including ourselves because we are different in some way. God designed us to be more than just a part of the crowd; He has a special plan for our life! Jeremiah 29:11 in the Bible says so!

Scripture basis: Hebrews 11:23 tells us: "By faith Moses' parents hid him for three months after he was born, because they saw he was no ordinary child, and they were not afraid of the king's edict."

Use the story of Moses to show that although he grew up in Pharoah's house, he chose to live differently and honor God with his life. Because of this, He was able to lead God's people out of Egypt, and they were saved.

God has created each of us to be different too. We all look different, we act different, we even think different. Because we are all different, God is able to use us in unique ways to spread His love to others.

The Bible tells us to be "a peculiar people" in 1 Peter 2:9:

"But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light"
