Just Do It!

Yes, that is the slogan for Nike, but it has also been God’s answer to me this morning for a prayer I often ask – “Lord, what am I supposed to do?”

In this season of empty nest and not working a full-time job outside of the home, there are times I feel a lack of direction. This morning was one of those times.

It’s not that I lack things to do; it’s more that there are SO many things that swirl around me I feel overwhelmed and my purpose becomes out of focus.

My comfort zone is to be planned and have a schedule, but God has called me to a season of “flexibility” and trust. This should be freeing, but for someone like me…it can feel daunting. What if I missed what I was supposed to do for Him today? What am I supposed to be working towards? Without a set goal, what am I achieving?

Now I must say, it has been so amazing how because of this “flexibility”, He has made it possible for me to do and be places I couldn’t have in other seasons. His timing is always perfect!

I am learning that a “God-day” is way better than a “good day!” My tendency is to measure the worth of my day by how many things I checked off my list…what “I accomplished”, but in reality a “God-day” is measured by how closely I walked with Him…close enough to see, recognize and do what He places in my path.

When I open my grip on life and trust Him step by step, I can walk more like Jesus walked. (1 John 2:6). Jesus told the religious leaders in John 5:19 –

“I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by Himself. He does only what He sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does.”

God is telling me to see whatever He has put before me each day, each moment, and do THAT. I don’t need to over think or spend time worrying…”Just Do It!” That may look like:

* Writing a note or text and praying for someone He has put on my heart & mind
* Going to visit someone or stopping to speak to someone as I run errands
* Sitting down and writing a blog post or preparing to teach Bible study
* Reading with children from our local school
* Or like this morning…cleaning the toilets for my family!

Our Father is at work all around us and in and through us. Let’s open our eyes and do what He has put right before us. No matter how big or how small we may think it is, let’s “Work willingly at whatever we do, as though we are working for the Lord rather than for people.” (Colossians 3:23)

So whatever “season” we may be in…let’s “JUST DO IT!”
